Vision
for the site - 'TEACHERWORLD'
The
vision for 'TeacherWorld' is to create a truly interactive medium
of communication which will enable members of minority ethnic
communities to engage in debate and discussion around educational
issues. This site is particularly geared towards providing information
and support for teachers from diverse backgrounds and those
who wish to enter the teaching profession
By
being up front about the evolving nature of the teaching profession
and highlighting issues involved in the teaching world, the
site aims to seek views of minority ethnic teachers and the
community by inviting them to contribute, offer opinions about
rules and regulations facing the teaching profession and ultimately
affect policy in this area. It seeks to create transparency
in the system and to empower minority ethnic teachers by giving
them the opportunity to make their voices heard.
The
networking element of the site is aimed at addressing the feeling
of isolation that is experienced by minority ethnic teachers
by providing on-line opportunity to chat and discuss issues
faced by those already in the profession and those who wish
to enter it. It aims to seek wider views on education from parents,
educationalists, pupils and teachers and to raise the status
and self esteem of minority ethnic teachers and teacher recruits
from this community. Through the discussion forum we aim to
have sustained discussions around educational issues and create
a rich source for opinions expressed here. Post a Question should
prove to be a popular service through which you can ask questions
and obtain responses from experts in the educational arena.
TeacherWorld
aims to create a virtual community and through its very nature,
will promote awareness about cultural issues amongst the wider
community. It includes a journal for on-line publishing. All
members are encouraged to put forward material for publishing
(see details about publishing on the Journal page)
The
Case studies page includes lively personal accounts of black
and minority ethnic teachers who have made it in the profession.
Read the excellent stories they have to tell. If you know of
anyone who should feature in this section please go to the case
studies page and fill out the relevant form.
